Rema to make O2 Arena return for 2024 BRIT Awards
The Nigerian artist, who received his debut BRITs nomination in the International Song of the Year category for his global hit ‘Calm Down’, will share the stage with Jungle, Dua Lipa, Kylie Minogue and Raye, this year’s most nominated artist.
“I am honoured to be returning to the O2 to perform at the BRIT Awards this year,” Rema, who is nominated for International Song of the Year alongside Cameroon’s Libianca (‘People’) and South African Grammy winner Tyla (‘Water’), said.
The International Song of the Year category also features Billie Eilish (‘What Was I Made For?), David Kushner (‘Daylight’), Doja Cat (‘Paint the Town Red’), Jazzy (‘Giving Me’), Meghan Trainor (‘Made You Look’), Miley Cyrus (‘Flowers’), Noah Kahan (‘Stick Season’), Oliver Tree & Robin Schulz (‘Miss You’), Olivia Rodrigo (‘Vampire’), Peggy Gou (‘It Goes Like Nanana’), SZA (‘Kill Bill’) and Tate McRae (‘Greedy’).
Other shortlisted African acts at the 2024 BRITs are Nigeria’s Asake and Burna Boy, who are nominated for the International Artist of the Year Award. They will be looking to beat Caroline Polachek, CMAT, Kylie Minogue, Lana Del Rey, Miley Cyrus, Olivia Rodrigo, SZA and Taylor Swift.
Rema will perform at the BRITs after playing in numerous European countries and states across America last year. In November, he became the latest Afrobeats star to sell out the O2 Arena.
‘Calm Down’ is the first African track to reach 1 billion streams on Spotify, winning Rema his first Best Afrobeats Award at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards and making him the longest-charting African artist on the Billboard Top 100.
British singer-songwriter and producer Raye is this year’s biggest nominee with seven nods. Central Cee and J Hus are both up for four awards each, closely trailed by Dua Lipa with three nominations.
