Ayra Starr to join Chris Brown on US tour
Nigerian Afrobeats singer Ayra Starr has been confirmed among special guests on US R&B star Chris Brown’s upcoming tour in support of his new album 11: 11.
Ayra Starr was named alongside Florida-born singer and songwriter Muni Long for the marathon, which includes nearly 30 dates across the US starting in Detroit on 5 June and ending in Los Angeles on 6 August.
“So excited to announce I’m going on tour with breezy Chris Brown. Can’t wait,” Ayra Starr disclosed to her 4.9 million Instagram followers.
The move follows a debut appearance at the Grammy Awards weeks ago after scoring her first nomination in the newly introduced Best African Performance category, which she lost to South Africa’s Tyla.
Signed to the Don Jazzy-led Mavin Records, the global Afrobeats label in which Universal Music Group recently announced a major stake, Ayra Starr is the author of a growing catalogue of hit singles, including ‘Bloody Samaritan’ and ‘Sability’, as well as ‘Rush’, which is among recent Afrobeats songs certified diamond in France. Her new release ‘Commas’, published a month ago, has already racked up over 8 million views on YouTube alone. Her eponymous debut EP and 19 & Dangerous album were both released in 2021.
Chris Brown’s album 11:11 is his 11th full-length studio effort. It arrived in November last year and was heralded by singles like ‘Summer Too Hot’ and ‘Sensational’, featuring Nigeria’s Davido and Lojay.
