Bio
Katia Vanessa was born in Maputo, Mozambique, on 2nd February 1985. With her, her talent for art and communication was born, too.
Music, her most expressive artistic aspect, blossomed in 1999, at the secondary school where she attended when she decided to participate in a small concert of young talents during a party for debut students. This boldness earned her an invitation to be the lead singer of a school band. This began his challenging journey into music. From then she started to sing in small concerts, family parties and participated, with the group, in a festival where they won the prize for first place and best performer, with a song of them. It was the path to realizing her biggest dream! Over time, new opportunities and invitations arose to sing with other singers, in choirs and participations, such as MC Roger, GPro, Med Level, among others. In 2004, Katia Vanessa took part on the famous music competition (real show) of Mozambique “Fantástico”, and she won the First Place. This prize opened more doors for Katia into the world of music, where she began her solo career.
She released her first single “Contradança” featuring Denny OG, one of the oldest rappers from Mozambique. Other songs followed, produced with the aim of releasing her first album, a fact that never happened. After this experience, Kátia joined Gpro, a label and a hiphop group. In early 2007, she released her single and music video “Amigo do Meu Namorado”, with the featuring of the singer, composer, and producer Nstar and in collaboration with Mr. Arsen.
After a long break in music industry, 14 years later, Katia Vanessa came back to music in 2021 and until now (2024) she released 6 songs/singles and returns to music industry with a vision of empowering women and people around her community, country and continent, trough music and other projects. After releasing her song and music video “Supawoman”, and using it as a social message for changing and inspire other women, Katia Vanessa won 3 awards: for Best Music Video of the year (Zikomo Awards, Zambia, 2023), for Best Inspirational Women for Southern Africa of the year, 2023 (Shining Star Africa Award, South Africa) and for 2nd place of “More than a Mother Award” (Merck Foundation, Egypt, 2023).
