SA: Filah Lah Lah drops On Air album
South African R&B singer and songwriter Filah Lah Lah has released her 18-track album titled On Air. The record is available for streaming and download on major digital platforms.
The album features an eclectic mix of soulful melodies and heartfelt lyrics. Some of the songs include ‘Ready’, ‘Time Last Night’, ‘Nobody’ and ‘Few Things’, with each track showcasing Filah Lah Lah’s distinctive musical prowess and introspective lyricism.
“It feels very full circle,” Filah Lah Lah said. “A lot has gone into this project over the last year and I’m so ready for the world to hear it.”
The album includes previously released singles namely, ‘Call Me’ and 'Past Myself’. The project also features fellow South African artists Patty Monroe on the single ‘Tourmaline’, Mars Baby on ‘Right With You’ and Blxckie on ‘Nobody’.
“On Air promises to offer listeners a captivating sonic experience, delving into the depths of Filah Lah Lah’s innermost thoughts and emotions,” the singer’s team said. “Through music, she embraces her individuality and makes decisions based on what makes her happy.”
Born Reabetswe Fila Ranamane, Filah Lah Lah’s passion for music was sparked by her late father who went out of his way to ensure that her musical consciousness was guided by artists like Nina Simone, Marvin Gaye, Betty Wright and Smokey Robinson. Her music career began shortly after enrolling for a law degree.
She released her debut single ‘Feels Like’ in late 2019, which is a tribute to the jazz greats she grew up listening to, with its tinkling piano melody overlaid with the 1990s hip hop beats.
Filha Lah Lah’s rise in the music industry has been nothing short of extraordinary. Within just six months of releasing her debut single, ‘Call Me’, she received a Metro FM Music Awards nomination in the Best R&B category.
Filah Lah Lah’s team added: “What sets her apart is not only her diverse musical influences but also her unique perspective on life. From her early years, she has embraced her individuality, using music as a conduit to express her true self. This authenticity permeates every track in the album, offering listeners a glimpse into the soul of an artist unafraid to bare her deepest emotions.”
