Call for funding: Arts projects South Africa
The National Arts Council (NAC) is calling on artists and organisations active in the disciplines of music, dance, theatre, visual arts, craft, literature and multi-discipline to submit applications for project funding.
Interested individuals and registered arts organisations should apply for funding in the following programmes: social cohesion and nation-building, innovation, design and creation of new work, capacity building, strategic initiatives, platforms, exhibitions and festivals.
The closing date for applications is 22 June and successful applicants will be announced in September.
Post-graduate students wishing to pursue arts studies abroad in the fields of music, dance, craft, literature, multi-discipline, theatre and visual arts are also invited to apply. Students willing to access NAC funding should be prepared to return to and work in South Africa to support the development of the arts in the country.
To apply, applicants need to register and complete the online application form using this link.
Conditions for acceptance of applications
- All relevant sections of the application form must be completed in full.
- All requested documentation must be submitted with the application form.
Late and incomplete applications will not be considered. Applications forms and funding guidelines are available at the NAC office or can be downloaded via the NAC official website. Only posted, couriered and hand-delivered applications will be accepted.
The NAC says the call was designed to encourage arts organisations and individuals that support the involvement of women, the youth and people living with disabilities, particularly in historically disadvantaged areas.
“Projects proposed should be of national significance taking into account creation of new works, arts development, arts promotion, job creation, capacity building in arts entrepreneurship and facilitation of access to the arts,” it said.
“Furthermore, applications that promote environmental sustainability, nation-building and social cohesion and have a strong community base conceived in collaboration with others working in similar fields will be preferable.
“Proposed projects must demonstrate impact and value for the communities they operate in. The project applied for must fulfil two or more of the following arts outcomes: economic value, creative value, social value, therapeutic value and educational value.”
