Open call: Resident Advisor city manager in Nairobi
Online electronic music magazine Resident Advisor (RA) is inviting applications for the position of city manager in Nairobi, Kenya.
Founded in 2001, RA is one of the world’s longest-running music media brands and a cornerstone of the dance, electronic, and DJ ecosystem.
Job description
The primary focus of the city manager is to support the local electronic music scene in Nairobi through content and editorial role as part of the RA Contributor Network, which aims to support local scenes around the world. The city manager will be responsible for keeping club and event listings updated and accurate, adding missing events, clubs, artists, labels, and promoters to the site, and helping users and readers discover the best events and music Nairobi has to offer.
They will also be responsible for pitching local news, reviews, mixes, and feature ideas from Nairobi to the news team, selecting and contributing RA picks for events in the city. The city manager will act as a link between RA and its readers and users from the local electronic music community in Nairobi and will be responsible for sharing ideas and feedback with the wider company.
As part of RA’s representation in Nairobi, the city manager is responsible for communicating RA’s offerings to local promoters, clubs, and artists, onboarding them to RA Pro, and assisting with developing relationships.
Key responsibilities
- Adding local content (events, artists, labels, promoters) to RA.
- Communicating frequently and effectively with your manager and other RA staff.
- Maintaining the club database: updating them with pictures, logos, addresses, and links.
- Pitching interesting local news, features, artists, labels, releases, and mixes for editorial consideration.
- Selecting and writing RA Picks.
- Assisting the revenue team with developing ticketing and advertising relationships.
- Having conversations with promoters, explaining RA’s offerings and features.
- Onboarding local promoters, venues, and artists to RA Pro.
- Pitching local community events and executing them with the help of RA’s community team.
- Assisting with IRL events.
This is a freelance role (five hours a week), preferably spread out across the week. Being based in Nairobi is a requirement for this role. Please upload an English CV and Cover Letter.

Important information
This is a freelance role, and the expected monthly rate is Ksh25,000 (about $185). RA regularly reviews its approach and calculations to determine fair and competitive salaries for all city manager roles across the globe. RA’s salary calculation method involves a comprehensive comparison of the cost of living, including rent, additional costs like transaction fees or superannuation, and average salaries across a range of comparable cities within our network.
