Binti Afrika Music
Bio
Binti Afrika is a Kiswahili term meaning "Daughter of Africa"
Binti Afrika is the queen of Swahili Dub, a sound that combines sultry Swahili vibes with heavy dub reggae baselines. She first developed this unique sound in 2016 whilst collaborating with Mungo's Hi Fi, a sound system based in Scotland heavily influenced by the original Jamaican sound system tradition. It was an instant hit and in 2017, Binti embarked on her first international tour in Oslo, Norway.
Prior to that, Binti collaborated with top East African musicians. In 1999, she kicked off her music career as part of the Kreative Mynds group, who was behind the hit single Mo Fire. She released her debut album Sauti Inawika in January 2016.
Binti is also a social activist. As a champion of the Lioness Order movement, she uses her lyrical prowess and soulful voice to uplift female youth from all walks of life.
“The Lioness Order is a representation of women’s innate and ethereal strength, of the courage with which we fight against the odds and get up after we get knocked down. I have many scars of my own and through my music I want to help women realise and unite with their power.” Binti Afrika.
Binti's second album is slated for release in 2020. TBA
