Major Lazer to play Uganda
Ugandan beer brand Club Pilsener has announced that American EDM supergroup Major Lazer will headline the Club Concert at Sheraton Gardens in Kampala on 8 October.
The concert, which is part of the Refresh Your Beat branding initiative by Club Pilsener, will also feature a major DJ from Angola as well as several Ugandan artists.
“Club has always been at the forefront of great experiences in Uganda," Club Pilsener brand manager Robert Nsibirwa said.
"We have brought to our consumers some of the most memorable acts that the country has seen. We are not about to stop and this concert is testament of our commitment to keep our resolve fresh and never let our beat dull.”
Major Lazer comprises producer Diplo and DJs Jillionaire and Walshy Fire. The globally recognised trio has the reputation of selling out shows everywhere they go.
Last year, the group won an Electronic Music Award in the Best Single category for 'Cold Water' featuring Justin Bieber and Danish singer MØ. The song's video, released on YouTube in July 2016, has amassed more than 905 million views.
The group also won a Billboard Award for the single 'Lean On' alongside DJ Snake in 2016. Its video is sitting at No 16 on YouTube's top 100 most-viewed list with almost 2.4 billion views.
Major Lazer made headlines this week for holding a surprise performance at London's Notting Hill Carnival, which according to British media was marred by a stabbing and hundreds of arrests.
Last year, Diplo thrilled a capacity crowd at another Club Pilsener event at the Golf Course Hotel in Kampala. Fans will be eagerly awaiting Diplo's return alongside his Major Lazer colleagues.
