Sho Madjozi drops Limpopo Champions League album
South Africa's Sho Madjozi has released her long-awaited album, Limpopo Champions League.
The 13-track offering is available on music streaming platforms such as iTunes, Spotify and Google Play. Sho Madjozi is expected to launch the album and her new clothing line at Edgars in Sandton, Johannesburg, today.
“So my album drops this Friday along with my clothing line at Edgars,” the 26 year old tweeted earlier this week.
The album features her hit single ‘Huku’ and begins with the Shangaan electro-inspired ‘Ro Rali’ featuring Makhadzi. Other notable songs on the album include ‘Idhom’, ‘Wa Penga Na?’, ‘Don’t Tell Me What to Do’, ‘Wakanda Forever’ and the title track 'Limpopo Champions League'. Kwesta, Y Cee, Makwa, pH Raw X, Marioo and Aubrey Qwana also make appearances on the album.
Limpopo Champions League is sung in English, Sho Madjozi's native Tsonga, and Swahili in 'Huku', and is a mixture of hip hop, gqom and various electro sounds. Released under the Flourish and Multiply label, the album had garnered a 98% approval rating by Google users at the time of writing.
Sho Madjozi has had an incredibly successful 2018 and the album is an apt conclusion to the year. In 2018, she played big events such as Afropunk in Brooklyn, One Source Live, Cape Town International Jazz Festival and Global Citizen Festival.
‘Huku’, which has amassed almost 3 million plays on YouTube, was featured on Apple Music’s African A-List together with such artists as Davido, Wizkid, Darkie Fiction, Toofan, Mr. Eazi and others belonging to the cream of African of music.
