Call for applications: Music In Africa Projects Manager
The Music In Africa Foundation, a non-profit organisation operating in the field of African music, seeks a self-driven Projects Manager with strong experience in the music sector or related cultural and creative industries.
The Foundation implements a wide range of projects including, but not limited to, the ACCES music conference (www.musicinafrica.net/acces), artist mobility funding, training workshops, artist exchange programmes, seminars and other initiatives. We develop, fundraise and implement projects of different shapes and sizes across Africa. The successful candidate should be a well-organised, conceptual thinker with strong team management skills as well as fundraising, grant management and event logistics expertise.
Responsibilities
- Provide leadership in the Projects Department and ensure that all projects are delivered on time, within scope and budget.
- Develop detailed project plans to monitor and track progress.
- Devise, manage and monitor project budgets (strong Excel experience is a must).
- Lead quality control processes in the Projects office.
- Assist in the formulation and conceptualisation of new projects.
- Ensure that deadlines and deliverables are met.
- Manage donors and stakeholder relationships.
- Assist in the hiring of projects staff.
- Ensure grant compliance as well as project staff’s adherence to control systems and financial procedures.
- Assess and report risks to management.
- Produce progress reports.
- Manage the presentation of projects online (on the website and social media).
- Develop and manage partnerships.
- Assist in the implementation of fundraising strategies.
- Research and update funders’ database and be aware of all key opportunities.
- Write and submit grant applications.
- Create professional information packs for funders and clients
- Participate in internal meetings and communications.
- Perform other duties and tasks.
Skills and requirements
- Educated to degree level or higher.
- Solid track record of project management (minimum 6 years) in the creative industries (music experience is advantageous). Preference is on candidates with relevant experience with reference to the responsibilities above. Ability to budget and monitor as well as reporting experience are key. This must be clear in your CV.
- Fundraising or business development experience.
- Excellent writing skills. The Projects Manager is responsible for finalising important project documents and applications. The successful candidate must be able to write perfect and mature copy in English without needing someone to edit their work.
- Strong knowledge of the African music industry or related creative industries.
- Experience working on logistics of big-scale events such as conferences. Our work includes organising frequent travel and hotel bookings for music professionals. This requires great attention to detail and teamwork.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English (French, Arabic or Portuguese advantageous).
- Experience in research and benchmarking.
- Software: Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook.
- Supervision, mentoring and teamwork.
- Ability to travel.
