Bio
Douglas is a multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter award winning artist from Kenya.
He is a graduate of Masinde Muliro University with a degree in B. Ed Arts. He also holds postgraduate certificates in music production and Music for Social Action from Berklee College of Music and Yale University respectively. He is the founder of Dowe Music &Arts-an academy and a production studio. He offers training in music (instrumentation as well as singing) and arts, Entrepreneurial Skills, Writing, Design Thinking and Leadership. He organizes mentorship workshops through Art4Leadership programs in which young people are linked to potential employers, sponsors, colleagues as they get entertained through music and arts together with professional speeches. Last year, DMA won the Nakuru City Mums and Dads award as the Best Music and Arts.
He is also the founding director of Wema Hair and Beauty Enterprise which is a venture in the cosmetic industry. In this, he endeavors to save families of the strenuous hustle to look for salon service by providing them wherever the client needs them. Clients can book services within 2hrs and anytime for the products delivery. He is interested in entrepreneurship and works to create more business as a way of curbing unemployment.
Douglas is passionate about change in Africa, and this propels him to seek knowledge from various institutions and fellowships to be an effective agent of change. He is an alumnus of Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) East Africa, Mandela Washington Fellowship (MWF2021), Ubuntu Leaders Academy, Emerging Leaders Foundation (ELF), OAKS AND CROWN (A Christian-based Leadership Fellowship) as well as Africa Innovation Leaders where he won the 2019 Business Idea Challenge during the World Manufacturing Forum in Italy. He is an award-winning artist and entrepreneur who is a recipient of the Top35Under35 award by the Youth Agenda in the Creatives Category in Kenya and the Tony Elumelu Foundation Award.
Being an innovative person, he has leveraged on the power of technology to keep his artistic, leadership and business endeavors going. This is through virtual trainings from his academy, collaborations with creatives within and without the country as well as workshops and concerts he is either invited or organizes to perform. He is a multi-talented artist releasing credible music and films every year.
In early March 2023 , Douglas his first major concert after Covid hit themed GBV Free. The concert is based on his latest love song entitled VEMA, Swahili word for “Well” and aims at advocating for peaceful relationships and harmonious coexistence in the society. The track is fast gaining populace with calls for performance in various parts of the country. The highlight of the month was when he performed for over 800 young Africans and leaders in the Mandela Washington Fellowship Symposium at Birchwood Hotel, in Johannesburg, South Africa.
