Call for applications: Artist residency programme in the US
The Center for Ballet and the Arts (CBA) is calling on scholars and artists of all disciplines, to apply for its fully-funded Resident Fellowship programme at New York University (NYU) in 2020.
The residency programme must occur during the NYU academic year (September 2020 – May 2021). Award durations vary by fellow and project needs. Applicants may request the amount of time that fits the project scope, between one month to one academic year.
“Fellows are not required to be experts in dance but must have an interest in engaging with the art form,” Center for Ballet and the Arts says. “We accept and encourage projects that explore many forms of dance and its related arts.”
Applications can be made online here and successful applicants will be notified in March. The application deadline 1 November.
Who can apply?
The following individuals can apply for the Fellowship:
- Scholar or artist pursuing an original project related to dance and/or its related arts and sciences.
- PhD holders.
- Individuals that show exceptional promise and/or have demonstrated significant accomplishments in their field.
Kindly note that:
- Dance expertise is not required.
- Students (as of September 2020) are not eligible.
The CBA does not support projects that:
- Are in arts administration.
- Are focused on the applicant’s memoir or autobiography.
- Are involve in giving dance classes as part of the research plan.
- Require reviewing prior work, such as editing, digitising, or organising archives, editing films or book anthologies.
Requirements
- Bio (max 200 words).
- Curriculum Vitae or resume (max four pages).
- Two work samples that best represent the applicant’s work.
- Two letters of recommendation.
- Preferred residency dates.
- Brief project description (max 100 words) that explains how the project aligns with CBA’s mission.
- Project proposal (max 1 200 words) that clearly and efficiently states why the project matters to the field of dance (what challenges or gaps does it address?).
- Documents may be up to 20 pages.
- Videos may be up to 10 minutes. Accepted formats are AVI, JPEG, MP3, MP4, PDF, Vimeo or YouTube link, WAV.
Kindly note that compilations or sizzle reels are not accepted.
Remuneration
- A weekly stipend of $750
- Use of CBA's dance studio, offices, and conference rooms.
- Housing, as needed and available.
- Round trip transportation to and from New York City.
- J-1 visa facilitation.
