Afro-Pfingsten Festival Switzerland

Bio

The planet is still the same size as it was millions of years ago. But the world seems to have become smaller through globalisation.
The Afro-Pfingsten Festival in Switzerland is a meeting place for people from all over the world who are interested in intercultural exchange. The festival facilitates cross-cultural encounters and thereby promotes mutual understanding in a mediating way.

Afro-Pfingsten stands for an inclusive, tolerant society and careful interaction between people of different life realities.
The Afro-Pfingsten Festival in Winterthur - with over 30 years of existence - is one of the oldest of its kind and remains unique in terms of size, scope and intensity. Every year, around 70,000 visitors come together in the heart of Winterthur to live "Afro-Culture" to the full or simply to get in touch with it.

Every year, around 150 artists from various disciplines (music, dance, DJs, acrobatics, poetry slam, etc.) perform on the Afro-Pfingsten stages. The programme is complemented by art exhibitions, film screenings, workshops and a programme for the little ones. The varied programme offers something for almost every taste - festival participants can choose between a pure experience and interactive participation.

The large market forms the backbone of the festival. More than 300 stalls sell homemade jewellery, Afro-style designer fashion or handicrafts produced in Africa. The market enables the community to generate income, but also gives them space to present their hobbies, projects or organisations. The large street food offer ensures that visitors can also gain new culinary experiences. Furthermore, non-profit as well as commercial organisations that are committed to making this planet a place that offers fair living conditions for all people will present themselves.
