Dankie Sthibo
Bio
Dankie Sthibo (born Thabo Makhubela) is a vocalist and stroyteller from South Africa.
He was born and raised in Meadowlands, Johannesburg, to Molly Makhubela and Lesley "Mbobe" Batsegi. Soweto proved to be strong training ground for this young talent. His single mother, Molly, being a lover of soulful and South African sounds, inspired and planted a seed of music into Thabo.
From an early age, Thabo recalls being a huge fan of artists like Chico Twala and Brenda Fassie. Thabo's singing career only began later in his life during his teenage years where he sang in the church choir, although hip hop was a major influence to him at this time - he was always present at Gandhi Square cyphers and at sessions like Kasi Mental and Dungeon Shack.
Thabo studied a bit of musicology upon completion of highschool, where he learnt piano, band management, arrangement, sound engineering, song composition, and stage performance.
Thabo and his friend, Tumelo Mtshali, initiated a band called Soul Kishin which had its debut gig at the Soweto Beer Festival in 2009. The collaborative still works together on various projects although the individual members are predominantly working on solo projects.
More recently, Sthibo released a single titled "White Church" which up to date has received a positive sentiment among listeners. The single is produced by 34Best Production's own King Barella.
The song is about a day in the life of a patron from Ndofaya (Meadowlands, Soweto), and it features artists KingK Baby and MuzCash. The collaborative is of these three artists is known as Jozi Kings.
