Deslynn Malotana’s artistic path is one of resilience, self-discovery, and a deep connection to the transformative power of music. Born in Johannesburg and Queenstown but with her roots firmly planted in Cape Town, she proudly identifies as a Capetonian at heart. Music runs deep in Deslynn’s veins, a legacy passed down from her late father, Desmond Malotana, founder of the iconic South African band The Big Dudes and the composer of the timeless hit Weekend Special. This familial connection ignited her passion for music and set her on a path of artistic exploration, blending heritage with innovation.
Her journey began with the release of her self-titled EP in 2014, which featured the chart-topping single How, winning the hearts of listeners and earning her acclaim on local radio stations. This was followed by a series of successful collaborations, including the evocative Black Love with Andy Mkosi in 2018 and the soulful Old School Love featuring Brae in 2020. In 2022, she released the poignant anthem Peace in Flames, a powerful expression of feminine empowerment and personal growth.
Deslynn’s presence extends beyond the music industry, with notable television appearances on Hectic Nine-9, SABC’s Expresso Morning Show, Afternoon Express, and Cape Town TV. Her dynamic artistry and compelling narrative continue to shape her evolving career.
Trained in vocal studies at the Campus of Performing Arts, Deslynn’s dedication to honing her craft is evident in every note she sings. A recent graduate of the Talent Development Program at the Bridges for Music Academy, she is now channeling her energy into completing her debut album, set for release in 2024.
