Kjongs

Kjongs is a Belgian reggae outfit with a Belgian and Ugandan fuse. Their sound can be described as a mixture of reggae, dub and dancehall, and neo-reggae.

Based in the hidden gem of the Flemish Ardennes, Ronse – Belgium, where the four met the journey of Kjongs has been more of a brotherhood that is built on unity, friendship and love for music. The band does, however, have strong ties to the African continent specifically Uganda, where lead singer Ak Simba hails from and frequently travels to for family reunions and inspiration.

You can be sure to expect new music from this powerful band as they set themselves up to be the most celebrated Neo-Reggae outfit the world has seen. KJONGS has also set 2019 as the year of touring as they embark on tour of Germany at the end of August. As the music plays and the rhythm continues, KJONGS is on a mission to change the scene of music and the genre of Neo-reggae. So get you're dancing shoes on and keep your ears on the ground as you could see them coming to a city near you.

Ras Chapati (Matthias Mareen - keyboard) and Lennyman Tele (bass and production) were constantly trying to build a Reggae scene in Ronse along with other music lovers. One night, (sometime in 2013), Ras Chapati brought a young Ak Simba who had just arrived in Europe and on a soul searching mission. He was delighted to discover that in downtown Ronse reggae was starting to be popular and revellers and music lovers were getting accustomed to the groove and vibe of the genre. Playing formerly as KARAMOJA, Ak Simba, Ras Chapati, Lennyman, and the other band members embarked on their first international African tour in Uganda dubbed Karamoja to Karamoja. Also enjoying great success was them performing on main-stage at Nyege Nyege (one of Africa’s biggest Arts and music festivals Karamoja).

However, with growth comes movement and after the tour it was clear that there was need for a transition to something new and part ways with some band members. That’s when KJONGS with Johnie Rasta (Jonas Coornaert) on the drums was born.

After a year of hard work, sacrifices, arguments, fun, laughter and lots of reggae dub vibes, KJONGS is now more than ever ready to intrigue you and to take you on a magical, musical and party full journey of Neo Reggae.
The grooving drums and bass, together with the dubbing keys, make the music move, while the unique, powerful, warm voice of AK Simba leads the dance.
