Lutendo Munyai also known as CJ and also SATMA Awards 2022 Nominee is a South African musician who plays Afro/Pop and Reggae music, Lutendo is a Singer/Songwriter and a guitarists, Munyai Was born in 19th July 1989 in Limpopo province (Venda) Miluwani, Tshitangwe), and he is a firth child of Mr Athinamanno David Munyai and Mrs Mashudu Unity Munyai, Lutendo Went to Makwarela Primary school from 1996-2002 and finish secondary at Mphaphuli High school in 2008.
Munyai’s Music Journey started early from Primary school where he was part of TSHIKONA, Vhavenda Traditional Music Dance, for three years he was part of these from Grade 5 up to Grade 7(200-2002).The Group participated in many Events around Venda and Gauteng and also at the South African National Arts Festival (SANAF) in Grahamstown in the year 2001 on his 6th grade. Munyai style of playing in Pop style music was influenced by different genres from Western Popular music like Westlife, Backstreet Boys, Bryan Adams, Prince Etc., and for Reggae Music his influence came from very own DR Colbert Mukwevho, The Great Lucky Dube and of course Jamaican Legends like Bob Marley and the Wailers, Dennis Brown, Third World, Burning spear and many more local and international artists.
During the year 2012 Lutendo was also part of Makhado 2012 Annual Show, Opening stage for artists like Dr Colbert Mukwevho, Donald, David Mmbi, Mizzo Phyll and other National and international Musicians, later that Year Munyai went to be part of the Venda movie project (VHANDILANI) doing the background sound tracks and also acted or played a character of a musician travelling from province to province chasing his dreams.
Few years later Mr Munyai met Adziambei Music Academy where he was recruited to be part of Academy in 2017,and after sometime of preparation Lutendo recorded and released his first album “GI MI Credit” on the 30th April 2021,The SATMA Nominated Album “GI MI Credit “consists of 12 songs and 2 Dub version. We have musadzi wa vho Rasta song on the album which is one the most popular, GI MI credit the title track,Seious Times,Mufunwa etc. “GI MI Credit” was live recorded at Adziambei Music Academy in Pretoria, DR Colbert Mukwevho,Thuthukani Cele,Jayco on keys ,Steve Netshishivhe and many where part of this projects.
