Bio
Ms. Isis, also known as Saueri Chomothi, is a self-taught producer, vocalist, and business owner hailing from the Eastern Cape but now based in Johannesburg. She gained recognition in 2011 when she collaborated on a jingle for SABC One's youth educational program and worked on a jingle for the South African TV show "Freedom is Not Free." In 2015, she collaborated with SculpturedMusic on the song "Only," which gained praise from notable musicians in the genre and no.1 on MetroFm. She has been associated with the Johannesburg-based Subterranean Wavelength Record label and worked on various projects, including "Fantastic Planes" and the first-ever beat tape by a woman, VNLL BLCK.
Her debut beat tape, "A SAFE SPACE," featured a blend of samples, loops, and vocals, showcasing her experimental approach. She received acclaim for her jazzy work titled "Head in the Clouds." In 2020, she embarked on the album "Mind Set," which explores a rebirth in the hip-hop/neo-soul genre. "Mind Set" delves into shifting perspectives and self-discovery, featuring collaborations with artists like Bongani GiveThanks and Zibu aka Hishaam. Her music features complex harmonies and melodies that aim to inspire love and freedom. Despite having no formal training in music production, Ms. Isis continues to produce rhythmic hip-hop rhythms with jazzy samples and layered vocals and is featured on the latest deep soul release from Aquadeep and Veesoul plus T.U.R.K's latest project, Better Late than Never.
