African artists get nods for BET Hip Hop Awards 2024
African acts, including Nigeria’s Burna Boy and Odumodublvck and South Africa’s Maglera Doe Boy and Blxckie, have been nominated for this year’s BET Hip Hop Awards. The awards will be taped in Las Vegas, US, on 8 October and aired on 15 October.
Since 2006, the awards have honoured outstanding talent in hip hop, covering performers, producers, and music video directors.
Burna Boy, who led Africa’s nominees with seven nods last year, returns this year with a nomination in the Best Live Performer category. Odumodublvck, along with South Africa’s Maglera Doe Boy and Blxckie, are nominated for Best International Flow, which Ghanaian musician Black Sherif won last year.
Meanwhile, US rapper Megan Thee Stallion leads this year’s awards with 12 nominations. Kendrick Lamar follows closely with 11 nods, while Drake has eight.
“This year’s nominees exemplify the creativity and diversity of hip hop and the culture,” BET’s EVP, specials, music programming and music strategy, Connie Orlando, said.
Rapper Fat Joe has been confirmed as the host and co-executive producer of the show, marking his third time in the role.
“It’s been a dream to host the BET Hip Hop Awards the past few years, and I’m looking forward to taking things to the next level in Las Vegas,” Fat Joe said. “We’re going to be in a new city and location, but the excitement and entertainment at the awards will be even bigger than ever.”
