Afro Nation Portugal 2023 announces more headliners
Nigerian Afrobeats stars Wizkid and Davido have been named among the headliners for the upcoming Afro Nation festival in Portugal from 28 to 30 June. South African amapiano act Focalistic, British singer Little Simz and Jamaican dancehall singer Popcaan have also been added to the festival’s line-up.
The festival, first held in Portugal in 2019, is often cited as world's largest Afrobeats event. The upcoming edition will take place on Praia da Rocha Beach in Portimao. Last year’s festival drew in more than 35 000 fans from 134 countries, and follows the second edition of Afro Nation Ghana held in December, which featured US rapper Meek Mill as the headliner.
“We are excited to welcome Wizkid, Davido, Little Simz, Popcaan, Focalistic and more to Afro Nation Portugal 2023,” the organisers said. “These artists represent the very best of African music and culture, and we can’t wait to see them perform on our beautiful beach stage. With so many incredible acts on the line-up, this is shaping up to be the summer’s most unmissable party, and our best festival yet.”
Afro Nation Portugal will feature multiple stages, bringing together top artists working in various genres such as Afrobeats, amapiano, Afro-house, hip hop, R&B and dancehall.
The roster already includes Burna Boy, 50 Cent, Booba, Aya Nakamura, Fireboy DML, Asake, Ayra Starr, Black Sherif, Oxlade and Dadju, among others.
“Afro Nation Portugal 2022 really felt like the culmination of everything we’ve been working towards, and managed to exceed everyone’s expectations yet again,” the organisers added. “We can’t wait to take everything up another level again in 2023 and bring everyone together on the beach for an unforgettable celebration of music and unity.”
Burna Boy, Aya Nakamura and Popcaan will perform on opening night, followed by Wizkid, Little Simz and Asake on 29 June. The final day will see 50 Cent, Davido, Booba and Fireboy DML providing the festival’s closing performances.
Meanwhile, Afro Nation’s US debut, Afro Nation Miami, will take place on 27 and 28 May.
