Ami Faku and Sun-El’s Into Ingawe goes double platinum in SA
Dynamic collaboration hit ‘Into Ingawe’ by South African artists Ami Faku and Sun-El Musician has been certified double platinum by the Recording Industry of South Africa (RiSA).
The inspirational song, which loosely translates to ‘it’s up to you', has been on an upward trajectory since its official release in June last year.
"Into Ingawe has gone Double Platinum! This has shown that the words have meaning to you as they do to me. Please accept our deepest thanks, you're loved and appreciated. From @sunelmusicianza and I," Ami Faku wrote in a tweet.
After reaching gold status in September, the song has now achieved the highest certification status for any musical work in the country. In the category 'Singles and EPs', RiSA certifies platinum status after more than 20 000 units are sold, double platinum after an additional 20 000 units (40 000) are sold, and so on, while gold certification is attained after 10 000 units in sales. Additionally, 120 streams are equated to one single unit.
RiSA is the globally recognised sole authority responsible for issuing gold, platinum and multi-platinum certification in South Africa. The body does not issue diamond certification in the country, despite previous reports.
The certification builds on Ami Faku's success. She has become a formidable force in the music scene in a relatively short time, and has been the talk of the town since the release of her debut album Imali last year.
In addition to ‘Into Ingawe’, Ami Faku collaborated with Prince Kaybee, Black Motion and Shimza on the track ‘Uwrongo’, which RiSA certified gold last month.
She recently told Music In Africa in an interview that she would like to work with Black Coffee in the future.
