Apple Music adds real-time lyrics translation, upgraded karaoke in iOS 26 update
Apple Music is set to become more globally accessible following the introduction of real-time lyrics translation and improved karaoke tools in the upcoming iOS 26 update. Unveiled at Apple’s 2025 Worldwide Developers Conference event, the new features are designed to break down language barriers and enhance the listening experience for music fans worldwide.
- The new feature allows Apple Music subscribers to instantly translate song lyrics into their preferred language while listening.
The headline feature, lyrics translation, allows Apple Music subscribers to instantly translate song lyrics into their preferred language while listening. Whether delving into K-pop, Latin chart-toppers, or French ballads, users will now be able to understand the meaning of songs as they play. The translation tool is powered by on-device Apple Intelligence, ensuring that translations are fast, secure, and privacy-focused.
At launch, the feature supports a broad range of languages including English, French, German, Italian, Brazilian Portuguese, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, and Simplified Chinese, with additional languages expected to be added by the end of the year. Translations are seamlessly embedded in the Apple Music interface, allowing users to switch effortlessly between original lyrics and translated versions.
iOS 26 also expands Apple Music’s karaoke functionality with the introduction of a new Lyrics Pronunciation feature. This tool helps users learn the correct pronunciation of foreign-language lyrics, making singalongs more inclusive and enjoyable. Whether practising a new language or just singing for fun, users can now approach karaoke with added confidence.
As part of Apple’s broader integration of AI and machine learning into its ecosystem, these additions reflect a growing focus on personalisation and accessibility. Apple says the aim is to help users better connect with music from around the world, regardless of language.
Meanwhile, with the upcoming launch of tvOS 26, Apple Music Sing will allow users to turn their iPhone into a wireless microphone for Apple TV karaoke sessions. Compatible with iPhone 11 and later, paired with the third-generation Apple TV 4K, the feature makes group karaoke easier than ever. Participants can queue tracks and send on-screen emoji reactions, adding a playful, interactive element to the experience.
Both the lyrics translation and pronunciation tools will be available to Apple Music subscribers when iOS 26 rolls out later this year.
