BeatStars launches music distribution service
US-based online music marketplace BeatStars last week announced that it had launched a new distribution platform for musicians around the world.
BeatStars also has offices in Portugal and Brazil. The news follows its recent deal with Sony/ATV, which pitches original songs and beats for recorded music and sync opportunities on behalf of BeatStars clients.
The BeatStars Distribution service will let artists and producers host their music on more than 30 music streaming and download platforms. The service also offers an analytics dashboard that allows users to track their streams across the platforms. Collaborators can also be added for automatic splits free of charge.
The service will cost $1.99 per month for unlimited tracks and artists get to keep 100% of the earnings collected. The company says than more than 4 000 users signed up to the service in its first week after launching.
“We’re super excited to introduce the first phase of our Distribution offering for our community,” BeatStars founder Abe Batshon said. “With over 4 000 musicians opting into the service during the first week, it truly is a testament to the fact that our creators are hungry for a service that can easily facilitate the creation, monetisation and promotion needed for the music lifecycle.
“BeatStars was the first digital music service that introduced collaborator income splits on the track level back in 2008 and we’re excited to say our distribution service will adopt the same collaboration and royalty sharing at no extra charge for collaborators added. This is just the beginning of our music distribution journey as we are already working on Phase 2 of our offering that will truly disrupt the way artists and producers collaborate and distribute their music.”
The online marketplace says it has paid out more than $85m to music producers licensing beats to artists on the platform. It has also amassed over 2 million users, including Grammy Award-winning musicians such as Mr Porter, DJ Green Lantern and Statik Selektah. Last year, the platform received media attention for being the source of the song used for Lil Nas X’s global hit 'Old Town Road'.
