Boomplay joins forces with music creation marketplace Splice
Africa-facing music streaming service Boomplay this week partnered with music creation marketplace Splice to launch Beyond Afrobeats, a new series of sample packs and signature collections by creators in the genre.
The move, which forms part of efforts to equip up-and-coming musicians, comes on the heels of Splice’s recent deal with SoundCloud to introduce the Nova programme for emerging artists.
The series will include a beat battle hosted by Nigerian producer Sarz, who is popular for his work with Afrobeats stars like Wizkid and Wande Coal. Contestants in the beat battle will get access to sounds from Nigeria-based producers including Mystro, LeriQ and Dunnie. They will also benefit from promotional resources like in-app visual ads and playlisting via the Boomplay and Splice platforms.
Interested participants can enter the beat battle here before 2 May.
“We are truly excited to partner with Splice to provide existing and emerging talents access and resources that will bring their creative vision and aspirations to life and help them reach a global audience,” Boomplay director of artist and media relations Tosin Sorinola said.
“This relationship presents an opportunity for artists to showcase their craft, enabling creative innovation and collaboration that can advance the industry forward. As a key player in Africa’s growing music ecosystem, Boomplay will continue to seek partnerships and initiatives to recognise and expose African talents and their music.”
Splice director of global music culture Kehinde Hassan, who joined the company last year, said: “At Splice, we cover many genres; we’ve become a place of discovery. As I am Nigerian-American, watching West Africa grow in music with Afrobeats and beyond is liberating. The Splice partnership with Boomplay and our Beyond Afrobeats genre campaign is just the beginning as we build with our global creators and partners.”
Boomplay boasts more than 65 million monthly active users and a catalogue exceeding 72 million tracks. Earlier this year, the company signed a reciprocal partnership with Triller to promote the two companies’ African playlists. The digital service provider’s streaming data is now also included in a number of Billboard charts. Splice, meanwhile, boasts more than 4 million users and a library of over 2 million sounds, samples and plugins.
