About Extra Muros
Extra Muros is an annual travelling residency programme, which brings together music producers and sound artists. During the residency, the stakeholders are invited to collaborate on music experimentation and production in an analogue music studio, built in collaboration with the Swiss Museum for Electronic Music, Varia Instruments and Ableton.
In late August 2019, the first edition of Extra Muros was held at Elephant Studio in Nairobi, Kenya. For two weeks, the participating artists shared their lives, artistic practices and toured through Kenya and Uganda presenting their work at various venues in Nairobi, Lamu, Kilifi, Mombasa and at Nyege Nyege Festival. The residency culminated in a compilation album by the artists involved.
