Call for applications: 2023 SAMPRA Development Fund in SA
The South African Music Performance Rights Association (SAMPRA) is inviting South African artists, cultural organisations, travel and touring artists, music producers, performing artists, promoters and music organisations that are hosting music events, workshops and industry-related awards to apply for its 2023 development fund.
The fund is divided into four sections: cultural organisations, travel and touring, music production, live events and awards, and musicals.
Cultural organisations
Eligibility
- Applicants must demonstrate a track record of dedication to the development, promotion and appreciation of South Africa’s diverse arts and culture.
- Only cultural organisations based in South Africa will be eligible for funding.
- The application should be accompanied by a CK document (proof of company registration) and quotations from third parties that add up to your budget.
- Applications with missing information or documents will not be considered.
- Only cultural events taking place from 4 November 2023 to 26 April 2024 will be considered.

Travel and touring
The funding will be available to recording artists, bands and start-up record companies with potential to become global superstars. This will also include SAMPRA members who have been invited to perform at international showcasing festivals, concerts, and conferences. The following expenses will be considered by the fund:
- Road travel.
- Visa applications fees.
- Per diems.
- Car hire.
- Accommodation.
- Band fees.
Eligibility
- Are you a SAMPRA member?
- Have you earned at least R3 000 from SAMPRA?
- Have you been invited or booked to perform locally or internationally?
- Do you have the required travel documents for the trip?
- If you have answered yes to all the questions above, then go ahead and apply for the SAMPRA Development Fund Travel Assistance.
- The application should be accompanied by a detailed motivational letter, artist profile, promoter invitation letter, certified copy of passport (for international travel), certified copy of ID (for local travel) and quotations from third parties that add up to your budget.
- Only tours taking place from 4 November 2023 to 26 April 2024 will be considered.
- Applications with missing information or documents will not be considered.

Music production
The SAMPRA Development Fund can help applicants with funds for the following:
- Pre-production.
- Studio rental.
- Mastering costs.
- Graphic design.
- Session fees.
- Pressing.
- Catering and accommodation during recording sessions.
- Accommodation expenses during recording sessions.
Eligibility
- Are you a SAMPRA member?
- Have you earned at least R3 000 from SAMPRA?
- If you have answered yes to all the above questions, then you are eligible to apply for music production financial assistance.
- Your application should be accompanied by a detailed motivational letter, artist profile, certified copy of ID, CK documents (only applicable to record companies), detailed budget breakdown showing all related production expenses and quotations from third parties that add up to the applicant's budget.

- Sound equipment rental.
- Sound engineering.
- Artists’ fees.
- Project management.
- Marketing and promotion.
Eligibility
- South African recording artists and live music promoters whose projects and events are aligned with SAMPRA’s vision and strategic objectives.
- Only events hosted in South Africa will qualify for financial assistance.
- The application should be accompanied by a CK document (proof of company registration), certified copy of ID and quotations from third parties that add up to your budget.
- Applications with missing information or documents will not be considered.
- Only live events taking place from 4 November 2023 to 26 April 2024 will be considered.

The SAMPRA Development Fund has undertaken to provide sponsorship opportunities for projects and events that are aligned with SAMPRA’s vision and strategic objectives. The fund is designed for applicants who are hosting an event and would like to partner with SAMPRA.
The projects and events that are eligible for sponsorship are:
- Music awards.
- Musicals.
