Call for applications: ACCES musicians' workshop in Dakar
The Music In Africa Foundation, in partnership with Goethe-Institut, will host a workshop for musicians in Dakar, Senegal, on 15 November as part of its ACCES music conference programme.
The one-day workshop, titled Steps to a Professional Music Career, is aimed at artists, particularly up-and-coming musicians who wish to learn key aspects of the business to improve their careers. The workshop will take place at Goethe-Institut Dakar and the trainers are Luc Mayitoukou (Senegal and Congo-Brazzaville) and Mounir Kabbaj (France).
The workshop will offer a mix of theory and practical exercises covering five main topics: What Does It Mean to Be a Musician? Starting a Professional Career in Music, Protecting Your Work, Marketing Your Music, and How to Create Compelling Electronic Press Kits.
Participants will also have the opportunity to learn more about the Music In Africa portal and how to use it to navigate the industry. Each participant will receive a certificate at the end of the workshop.
The workshop forms part of the foundation’s inaugural ACCES programme, in line with Music In Africa’s vision to support the music sector on the continent through the exchange of information and skills.
The workshop will start at 9am and end at 5pm. Applicants will be required to attend all sessions.
Eligibility
To participate in the workshop you have to:
- be a musician based in Senegal
- have a music career not longer than five years
- have recorded at least one song or demo
- have a profile on www.musicinafrica.net.
Applying
The application process is done online here, where you will be required to answer a few questions. The deadline for submissions is 3 November 2017. Only 25 candidates will be selected to participate in the workshop. Selected participants will be notified via email by 7 November.

About ACCES
The Music In Africa Conference for Collaborations, Exchange and Showcases (ACCES) is an annual music conference that hosts industry players from across the African continent. ACCES 2017 will be held in Dakar, Senegal, on 17 and 18 November and will see music professionals converge on the Senegalese capital to exchange ideas, discover new talent and accelerate the shaping of the music sector on the continent. The conference offers training workshops, panel discussions, presentations, networking sessions, exhibitions, showcases, concerts and visits to key music industry hubs in Dakar.
