Call for applications: AfriMusic Song Contest
A contest for musicians and songwriters has made a call for applications around the continent.
The AfriMusic Song Contest seeks to reward talent through a competition that will span countries on the continent. For its first edition, the contest will take place exclusively on digital platforms. From next year, organisers of the event intend to start festivals in every country partaking in the competition.
Winner of the AfricaMusic Song Contest will attend the Eurovision Song Contest taking place in Portugal in May 2018.
How to enter
Before the registration proper, pre-registration for the contest will determine the countries and number of artists to take part in the contest. This stage allows contestants to submit entries for registration ahead of time.
Pre-registration began on 3 August and will close on 3 October. Opening for entries proper begins on 1 November 2017 and closes 5 January 2018.
After the entries phase, The AfriMusic Song Contest’s independent judges will review and assess entries to ensure compliance with the published rules. National Selections will take place in each participating country on AfriMusic’s digital platforms.
During the entry phase, entrants will be required to submit a video of their song performance. Their submitted video will be made available for a public to vote for the best song. The winning song from each country will then represent their country in the finals.
The finals
For the finals, The AfriMusic Song Contest will professionally produce a music video of each participating country’s winner. Those music videos will then be broadcast on AfriMusic’s digital platforms as well as on an African TV music channel. Winners from each country will compete for the winning title of the BEST SONG IN AFRICA.
The National Selections voting in each country will take place from 13 January 2018 to 11 February 2018. Voting for the finals will take place from 15 - 29 March 2018.
