Call for applications: Art scholarship in Egypt
Egyptian art students seeking to pursue graduate studies in Europe can now apply for the Mahy Khalifa Art Fund scholarship.
The scholarship was launched last year by Dina Shehata and Karim Abou Youssef in memory of Mahy Khalifa, an art lover and collector, who passed away in July 2019. It is managed by Art D’Égypte, a platform that promotes Egyptian art on an international level.
The scholarship is for one year and aims to:
- Support contemporary art and culture education.
- Provide resources and exposure to ambitious young talents.
- Support production and research.
- Nurture a new generation of artists, art scholars, curators and more.
Eligibility
Applicants could be from various art fields including but not limited to visual arts, music, new media arts, art history, art criticism, curating and art management.
Interested applicants must:
- Have a graduate degree (masters) or non-degree (research institution).
- Have an unconditional acceptance letter from the hosting institution/university in Europe.
- Be Egyptian.
- Speak one of the institution’s working languages.
- Have basic computer skills.
- Have graduated at least a year ago.
- Be aged 35 and below.
Requirements
- A filled application form, which is available here.
- A detailed portfolio including description or statements (max five pieces).
- A graduation certificate.
- A CV.
- One-paged personal information written by the applicant.
- A recommendation letter from a mentor in the field.
The application deadline is 10 June at 11.59pm (GMT+2).
Note:
- Short-listed applicants will sit for an interview with a selection board.
- Candidates are requested to participate in any project in the related field in Egypt within two years following the programme.
