Call for applications: COVID-19 fund for African touring musicians
Germany-based NGO Start With Culture (SWC) is calling on African touring musicians to apply for its emergency relief fund, Soulidarity.
The fund seeks to help African musicians who have experienced financial losses due to the COVID-19 crisis. Successful applicants will receive between $1 800 to $4 500 as a one-time relief payment. The funds will be distributed to the selected participants through their managers or agencies.
Eligibility
Applicants should consider the following:
- Only managers or the mother agent can submit applications on behalf of a band or artist.
- The musicians must be residents in Africa.
- Three quarters of the concerts lost by the participating musician(s) must have been booked in Europe, the Americas, Oceania or Asia in the period March to December 2020 due to COVID-19 pandemic.
- The musicians must provide and share content for social media and more as listed in the artist's guide here.
- Applicants and represented musicians must be 18 years and older.

Requirements
Applicants will be required to submit the following:
- Copy of passports of all band members.
- Proof of band members: stage set-up or technical rider as a proof for the band members listed in the application process.
- Proof of confirmed/cancelled shows.
Selected artists will create content for the campaign and "tell us their personal stories throughout the crisis and how it affects them and their countries," SWC said.
"It is uncertain by when African musicians will be able to tour again to make a living. Without any financial help, a heart-breaking number of mind-blowing talents will struggle to continue their craft."
Important dates
- July to September 2020 – content delivery and social media campaign.
- October 2020 – project finalisation and payouts to the managers/agents.
