Call for applications: Musicworks Electronic Music Contest
Musicworks magazine in Canada is inviting participants to apply for its annual Electronic Music Composition Competition. This call is open to artists from around the globe at any stage of their careers.
Now in its ninth edition, the contest seeks to explore innovative music and sound art from different places and perspectives. The magazine was launched in 1978 and is published three times a year to connect people who want to better understand and share their enthusiasm for diverse and innovative artists.
Interested individuals can compose and submit an experimental piece in any electronic music genre such as:
- Acousmatic
- Electroacoustic
- Glitch
- Soundscape
- Intelligent Dance Music (IDM)
- Turntable art
- Video music
The application deadline 25 October.
The selection process begins in November 2019 and the winners will be notified before the end of February 2020.
Eligibility
The project to be submitted must:
- Not exceed 10 minutes.
- Be in either MP3 or MP4.
- Not have been released as a commercially available recording at the time of submission.
Please do not include your name in the filename/title of your submission and remove credits if you are submitting video music.
Prizes
All entrants will receive a free, one-year subscription to Musicworks.
The first prize will receive:
- Can$500 (US$380).
- A composer profile in Musicworks Spring 2020 issue (both in print and online).
- Composition released on the Musicworks136 CD.
Second prize will receive:
- Can$200.
- Composer coverage on musicworks.ca in 2020.
Third prize will receive:
- Can$100.
- Composer coverage on musicworks.ca in 2020.
Interested individuals will be required to pay Can$25. Additional entries are v$5 each, unlimited.
