Call for applications: Red Bull global DJ competition
Red Bull 3Style is calling on all DJs around the world to submit a performance video to be in with a chance of joining the 'Olympics of Djing'.
Six local DJs selected from the online entries will prove their skills and ability in a 15-minute mix showcasing at least three music genres. The winner of each national final will represent their country at the world finals in Moscow, Russia, next year.
All selected participants for the national finals will be announced in early August. DJs who wants to take part in the competition should register and enter a five-minute original performance video here.
The competition is under way and entrants have until 30 June to submit their videos.
At Red Bull 3Style live events, DJs will be given 15 minutes to impress the crowd and judges with their originality, creativity and ability.
“We want you to show your skills and take us on a musical journey and most of all, we want you to do you,” Red Bull said. “The only creative constraint you are given is that you must play at least three genres of music in your 15-minute set.
"Realistically, there are countless genres of music but as Duke Ellington said so long ago: ‘There are only two kinds of music: good music and the other kind’. So, dig deep into all kinds of crates and find those 15 minutes of mixed greatness that truly represent you.”
Rules
On the technical side, Red Bull will allow the following:
- Two players (2 turntables or CDJs).
- One mixer and a maximum of two MIDI devices.
- One-piece controllers are also allowed in replacement of our standard set-up of players and mixer.
“There really is no predefined backline for this artform but this is the maximum allowable amount of gear for our events,” Red Bull said. “You are free to do whatever you want with the aforementioned gear on the DJ desk.”
What are the judges looking for?
- 40% originality
- 25% skills
- 20% music selection
- 15% crowd response
