Call for applications: UAE artist residency
Sharjah Art Foundation is inviting artists to apply for a residency programme in the United Arab Emirates between 21 March and 21 June 2020.
The residency will be part of an exhibition by Lebanese contemporary artist and composer Tarek Atoui, whose works centre around experimental and innovative musical forms. Atoui’s works are informed by extensive research into music history and tradition, which come to life in performances that explore new methods of collaboration and production.
Atoui’s exhibition will explore the following areas:
- Instrument making.
- Composition.
- Collaboration.
The application deadline is 30 November 2019.
Eligibility
Interested artists must be working with:
- Electronic, experimental or improvised musical forms.
- Sound and/or performance.
Note that knowledge of and experience with sound is mandatory.
During the residency, participating musicians, composers and artists will be invited to experiment and interact with different audiences as well as a range of exhibition spaces, listening situations and instruments to develop or produce new work.
There may be opportunities to perform in Sharjah. A Skype interview with the artist and one of the foundation staff members will be arranged for shortlisted candidates.
Sharjah Art Foundation will cover the travel, accommodation and production expenses for all local and international participants.
