Call for compositions: Akinyemilaw Song Challenge in Nigeria
Entries are ongoing for the third instalment of the Akinyemilaw Song Challenge.
- King Marky Moore won the second edition of the competition.
The competition is organised by lawyer and entrepreneur Akinyemi Ayinoluwa, and is open to Nigerian songwriters. It will see the top three winners share ₦300 000 ($730).
“It pays to write, perform and record amazing and memorable lyrics and sweet or catchy melodies,” Ayinoluwa said. “These are the things the judge will be looking for in all the entries.
The best three songwriting entries will be selected by producer Klem, and announced on 31 October.
How to enter
- Songwriters interested in the songwriters’ challenge should choose one of the beats on the competition website, and submit only one entry.
- All songwriters must follow @akinyemilaw, @teezybeatz_xclusive, @kss_wiz, and @likeseduction and use the hashtags #AkinyemilawSongChallenge and #AkinyemilawBeatsAndHooks on Instagram to be eligible for the challenge.
- The entry caption should include the hashtags #AkinyemilawSongChallenge and #AkinyemilawBeatsAndHooks.
- Every songwriter’s entry should be a one minute video of the songwriter singing to the hook or verse or chorus written to the beat chosen.
- The face of the songwriter must be clearly captured in the video. Quality audio and video recording helps increase your chances of winning.
King Marky Moore won the previous edition of the competition in July. He received $150 and a pass to Ayinoluwa’s webinar on copyright for music creators.
“This is one of the many great things we will be doing to help build Nigeria’s songwriting community,” Ayinoluwa said when he announced the winners in July. “The ultimate legacy is to help build an environment that allows the next generation of creatives to thrive and have a more prosperous adventure.”
