Call for compositions: ONE WORLD Song Contest 2023
German non-profit organisation Engagement Global is inviting children and young people aged between 10 and 25 to submit self-written and composed songs for the ‘Dein Song für EINE WELT’ (Your song for ONE WORLD) competition.

Criteria
- Entrants must be aged between 10 and 25 years old.
- Must be from Germany or from a DAC-listed country of the Global South.
- The song must not be longer than 3.50 minutes.
- The song should deal with topics of global development (find out here).
The Song Contest is an accompanying measure of the biannual school competition on development policy organised since 2003 on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
Requirements
- The lyrics have to address the topics Global Development/One World.
- The song must be no longer than 3.50 minutes in length.
- The song may not have already participated in a previous competition round of the Dein Song für EINE WELT (Your song for ONE WORLD) Song Contest in a similar form or the same form (text/music).
Who can take part?
- Children, teenagers and young adults between the ages of 10 and 25 from Germany and from many countries in the Global South may take part in the Song Contest. A list of permitted countries outside of Germany can be found at the following link.
- Participants who are under the age of 18 must consent their participation to a legal guardian and sign and submit the declaration of consent at the end of the terms of participation.
- Individuals or groups can take part, e.g. bands, choirs, etc. There is no limit to the group size.
- Participants can also submit a joint entry with pupils from partner schools or friends from countries from the Global South. There is a special prize to be won for such entries.
- People who are already registered with a licensing society (e.g. GEMA) may not take part in the Song Contest, unless they provide a certificate of exemption for their entry from the licensing society.
- Only those individuals who have registered to participate in the Song Contest by the deadline for entries may take part; registration is not possible after this date.
The contest takes place online here before 15 June, but participants need to first register before submitting.
At the end of the registration, the following files must be uploaded:
- A song as an audio or video file (permitted file formats are .mp3, .mp4, .mov, .avi, .flv and other files).
- If more than ten people are participating, a digital document containing the names and dates of birth of all group members.
The music will be evaluated according to:
- The musicality (expressive, emotional and nuanced interpretation).
- Voice performance.
- Composition.
- Development potential.
Prizes
- The winners receive money and non-cash prizes worth more than €70 000 ($74 000)
- These include live performances, workshops and professional studio recordings, since the best 23 songs will be produced to create an EINE WELT (ONE WORLD) album.
