Call for entries: Creative industry competition in SA
The German Mission in South Africa is calling on local musicians, fashion designers and cartoonists to submit entries for its Creative Industry Competition.
The competition is in celebration of German Day of Unity on 3 October and aims to celebrate the German-South African friendship.
Categories
- A South African-German theme song that you will produce with Ralf Gum: Participants should submit a demo (MP3 format) of a South African-German theme song, which will be used during embassy events. The song should contain vocals and can be in any genre. The lyrics of the song should be in English or any official South African language. The length should be at least three-and-a-half minutes (radio edit length). The winner will receive a cash prize of R10 000 and a once-in-a-lifetime chance to work in studio together with DJ Ralf Gum on final production and mix.
- A design of a special edition South African-German facemask: The organisation is looking for an innovative design of a facemask representing South African-German friendship. The mask design should be in a printable, high-resolution format and needs to incorporate the wording ‘German in South Africa’. The winner will receive a cash prize of R10 000. The mask will be used for public outreach events.
- A cartoon that features the South African-German friendship: Participants in this category should submit a cartoon on the theme of South African-German friendship. Winners’ cartoons will be published in a special edition book and featured on the German Missions’ social media. The winners will also receive a material prize.
In all the categories, participants stand a chance to win prize money and/or other attractive prizes. Entries will be viewed and rated by a jury consisting of members of the German Embassy and an external expert.
“We know that artists around the world have been hit especially hard by the pandemic,” a statement reads. “Therefore, the German Embassy wants to give something back to artists in South Africa. In celebration of the German Day of Unity 2021, we are launching a creative industry competition, calling musicians, fashion Designers and cartoonists to join us in celebrating German-South African friendship – and win fantastic prizes.”
