Call for entries: Culture at Work Africa song competition
Culture at Work Africa is calling on lyricists and composers to write or compose a song that falls under the theme, Intercultural Dialogue and Cultural Diversity.
Culture at Work Africa is funded by the EU and aims to encourage intercultural dialogue, cultural diversity and respect for the equal dignity of all individuals, which contributes to the overarching principles of Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development Goals such as global citizenship, pluralism and freedom of religion.
"A consortium of eight African, European and international partners joins forces with the EU to create new opportunities and mobilise stakeholders to promote intercultural dialogue and cultural diversity in urban and peri-urban areas in Africa as drivers for social inclusion and sustainable human development," Culture at Work says.
Who can apply?
Entrants from the following countries are eligible to apply: Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, DRC, Kenya, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda and Zimbabwe.
The application deadline is 3 February 2020 at midnight (GMT). The winner will be published on the Culture Work Africa official website in March 2020 and notified by email or telephone.
Eligibility
The song to be submitted must:
- Be the contestant's original work and he/she must either be the sole owner or the transferee of the intellectual property rights.
- Not exceed five (5) minutes in length.
- Be in English or French.
- Be of any aesthetic/genre.
Requirements
Entrants can submit the song via email to info@cultureatworkafrica.net along with the following documents:
- A signed application form, which can be downloaded here.
- Lyrics in PDF format
- The song in MP3, WAV or FLAC format.
If the files are too big, a WeTransfer, Dropbox or similar system can be used to transfer them. An accompanying video is desirable but not mandatory.
Selection process
The winner will be chosen by a panel of three judges composed of members of the Culture at Work Africa project, under the guidance of the International Music Council. Songs will be judged based on melody, composition, originality and lyrics related to the topic of the contest. The quality of the recording might impact the evaluation.
Prize
Aside from benefiting from exposure through the communication tools of Culture at Work Africa. The winner will be invited to perform the winning song at an event organised in the framework of Culture at Work Africa in Brussels, Belgium, and/or Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in spring 2021.
