Call for entries: DJ competition in Ghana
The organisers of the Ghana DJ Awards have announced a call for entries for its Greatest Playlist Contest.
The competition is open to emerging Ghanaian disc jockeys (DJs), and offers the winner a performance slot at the 2022 edition of the awards, slated for November in Accra.
“We know there are music fans out there who believe they can rock the audience as pro DJs do,” a statement reads. “We are giving you the opportunity to show your skills with a chance to exhibit your DJ moves at Ghana DJ Awards 2022.”
Now in its 10th year, the scheme, organised by Merqury Republic, honours the country’s most hardworking and dedicated DJs who promote Ghanaian culture through music.
“The Ghana DJ Awards came to shape the DJ culture in Ghana and is a platform for bolstering music professionals locally,” Ghana DJ Awards CEO Merqury Quaye told Music In Africa. “We are working hard to increase the value of the awards."
To participate, interested DJs must record a video mentioning five dance-ready tunes to get a party going. After that they must post it on Twitter or Instagram, tagging @GhanaDJAwards and @JoyEntertainment, and using the hashtag #GhanaDJAwardsGPC.
The deadline for entries is 9 September.
Meanwhile, other activities designed around this year’s Ghana DJ Awards include a pub festival starting this Saturday. The initiative, which will make stops across 10 selected regions across Ghana, aims to give exposure to pub DJs. This year’s awards will also be heralded by the DJ Clinic workshop sessions for empowering DJs and creating networking opportunities for participants. Last year, the DJ Clinic sessions focused on female DJs, and included masterclasses on voice-over recording and music production.
