Call for entries: East African music video award
Zanzibar International Film Festival (ZIFF) and TRACE Mziki are accepting entries for the 2018 Best East African Music Video Award.
- Eddy Kenzo won the award last year.
ZIFF festival director Fabrizio Colombo said last year’s inclusion of the Best East African Music Video Award demonstrated the festival’s commitment to grow all creative industries in the region. The award would also celebrate the creatives and crews that were making the videos possible.
“Last year at ZIFF we recognised the technical and storytelling expertise of music video producers and directors and we were very impressed with the quality of the entries,” he said.
“This year, with our partnership with TRACE Mziki expanding even further, we are expecting even more entries.”
Last year, Ugandan Eddy Kenzo became the first musician to win the award for his song ‘Jubilation’.
Other nominees from the region were Tanzanians Ray Vanny for the ‘Natafuta' video, Jux for ‘Umenikamata’ and Darassa for ‘Muziki’.
Kenya was represented by Everlast (‘Gudi Gudi’), Avril (‘Uko’), Naiboi (‘Problem’) and Nyashinski (‘Now You Know’). From Uganda, Kenzo was up against Sheebah with ‘Nkwatako’ and A pass with ‘Gamululu’.
To apply for consideration at ZIFF 2018, East African artists, video producers and directors should submit their videos via the ZIFF official website.
The videos must be for an East African artist and must have been created in 2017 or after.
The submission deadline is 30 May 2018.
