Call for entries: Up We Go Mzansi creative competition
South African creatives in the fields of music, dance, word and art are invited to submit entries for the Up We Go Mzansi competition.
The competition came into fruition following the launch of the Up We Go Mzansi campaign, which is led by the Department of Sports, Arts and Culture’s Advocates for Social Cohesion Programme. The campaign seeks to encourage South Africans to share their voice of expression and inform the country’s collective journey. The first phase of the campaign kicked off with the release of the song ‘Bayete Mzansi’ by local artists PJ Powers and the Mzansi Youth Choir.
Interested creatives can submit entries in any of the following four categories:
Song
Artists should submit a recorded audio or video file of a performed piece, as well as a written document with lyrics. The file should not be longer than four minutes and must be not exceed 12MB.
Dance
Participants are encouraged to record a dance featuring the ‘Bayete Mzansi’ song as a beat. The file must be less than four minutes and not exceed 12MB. Participants are welcome to rerecord the song’s pre-chorus and chorus, with their own beat and added lyrics.
Word (spoken word, speech, poem and story)
Entrants should submit an audio file and a written document not exceeding four minutes in length (less than 12MB).
Art (any form of artwork and photography)
Entrants should submit a digital image of their original finished artwork not bigger than 8MB in PDF or JPEG format. The original artwork must be kept safe as it may be physically required.

The submission deadline is 16 June and the winners and placements in each category will be announced before or on 30 June.
Prizes
Cash prizes will be allocated as follows per category:
- First place – R25 000
- Second place – R12 500
- Third place – R5 000
