Call for registration: Music publishing and sync webinar
Audio sharing platform Byta is calling on interested participants to register for its free webinar on music publishing and sync featuring Kobalt Music Publishing senior vice-president of creative Miller Williams on 30 August.
The webinar forms part of a new monthly online event designed to assist artists and industry leaders to better manoeuvre their way through the music ecosystem.
The conversation will seek to answer the following questions:
- What exactly is publishing and how does it work?
- Why has publishing become more important over the last decade?
- How does an artist get a publishing deal?
- What are people looking for when it comes to tracks for advertising, TV, and film?
- How important is “luck” when it comes to sync?
- What are the unexpected opportunities developing in the industry?
- How does publishing help with collaboration with other writers?
The event will be presented in two parts including a workshop with tips and insights hosted by Byta founder Marc Brown, as well as an in-depth interview with Williams who will talk about the publishing ecosystem and music sync such as when to look for a deal as an artist, the different types of mechanicals and royalties, writing sessions, A&R, getting music into TV series, movies, video games, and more.
Kobalt is among the leading independent companies for music publishing, label services and rights management. Williams’ role at Kobalt covers A&R, songwriter services, and catalogue acquisitions. The exec also works with their international agents and sub-publishers to exploit their songs and help their writers with co-writing opportunities. Signings include artists like Becky Hill, Milow, Jef Martens, Houston Comma publishing, among others. Williams previous experience includes similar roles working at Sony ATV UK, BMG Records UK, and PWL Records UK.
Brown, meanwhile, boasts a deep background in the music business and digital audio. He is a former label owner, A&R manager and radio plugger.
The webinar will begin at 6pm (CAT). Interested participants can sign up here.
“Before COVID, publishing had already become an essential part of developing a creator’s career and sustaining income,” Byta said. “Over the past year, publishing and sync is in the news weekly. Artists are selling their catalogues (for big numbers) and TV shows have quickly pushed artists to the top of the charts.”
