Call for scores: International Percussion Premiere Night in Italy
The Casa della Musica centre in Trieste, Italy, is inviting musicians and composers from around the world to submit music scores for percussion duo.
Four compositions will be recorded at the centre’s Urban Recording Studio and later premiered by Popocatepetl Percussion Duo comprising Gabriele Petracco and Marko Jugovic at Casa della Musica on 15 February 2020.
The best among the four compositions selected will be awarded €1 000 ($1 130) by a jury, which is made up of four internationally renowned musicians from Italy, Slovenia, Argentina and the Netherlands.
With this competition, the Casa della Musica centre seeks:
- To broaden the repertoire for percussion ensemble.
- To stimulate composers to explore this field.
- To allow composers to get their works professionally performed and recorded.
- To expand the network of participants for further collaborations.
The deadline for the application is 23 September 2019 and successful scores will be announced on 30 September 2019.
Eligibility
- There is no age limit.
- Each work should last between four and 15 minutes.
- The use of audio and/or videotapes and live electronics is allowed.
- Composers may submit a maximum of three works.
- Only works for percussion duo that has neither been performed professionally nor published as of 23 September 2019 shall be accepted.
Composers can choose instruments from the following list:
- Five octave marimbas.
- Two vibraphones.
- One xylophone.
- One glockenspiel.
- Two timpani.
- Two kick drums.
- Two snare drums.
- Eight tom-toms.
- Several cymbals.
- Two sets of wood blocks.
- One tam-tam.
- Six small Thai gongs.
- One octave of crotales.
- Two tambourines.
- One wind chimes.
- Two triangles.
- Junk percussion.
Requirements
To participate in the competition, interested participants must submit:
- A filled application form and signed membership form, which can be downloaded here.
- CV with an optional catalogue of works.
- Scores in PDF format.
- Payment confirmation.
- A copy of a valid ID/passport.

Popocatepetl Percussion Duo will not claim any of the entered compositions beyond the right to premiere the winning pieces.
