Call for submissions: Artistic journalism fellowship in Canada
Canada-based ArtsEverywhere foundation is calling on individual musicians, artists, journalists, writers, producers or collectives globally to apply for the 2022 Fay Chiang Fellowship for Artistic Journalism.
The year-long programme is open to those whose work integrates creative practice with rigorous journalistic research, writing and multimedia production. The 2020 programme will run under the theme, Fault Lines and Fragile States.
Project proposals should conform to the approaches of reportage and long-form narrative storytelling exhibited in ArtsEverywhere’s Curse of Geography series. While the work of the fellow is not expected to replicate the stories in the series, preferred submissions will emphasise collaborative engagement with independent artists, journalists, producers and/or cultural institutions. Projects highlighting critical issues in underreported parts of the world will be given preference.
The selection committee’s final decision will be based on:
- The merit of the overall proposal.
- Quality background research and proof of concept.
- Feasibility of timeline and final project.
- Demonstrated experience creating compelling non-fiction content.
- The potential to impact positive social change. ArtsEverywhere’s editorial staff will be available to answer any questions regarding the suitability of a project proposal.
The submission deadline for proposals is 1 December.
Shortlisted applicants will be notified by 15 December and interviews will be conducted over the following weeks.
The 2022 Fay Chiang Fellow will be announced by 30 December 2021. The selected fellow will be expected to join online editorial meetings every 3 to 4 weeks during the course of the project year to be scheduled beginning late January 2022.
The fellow will receive CA$15 000 (12,100) as a fee and CA$5 000 for travel, equipment and other project costs. Fellows will be required to present a mid-project progress report, deliver the final project no later than 15 December 2022.
Note: Organisers will extend the opportunity for the fellows to exhibit/present their work at the 2023 ArtsEverywhere Festival (funds to attend the festival will be provided separately by ArtsEverywhere).
