Call for applications: Performing arts residency in Canada
The Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity in Alberta, Canada, is accepting applications for its Indigenous Arts Creation Lab residency programme, which will take place in 2022.
This programme is designed for indigenous performing artists, collectives or companies with a regional, national and global focus to develop the physical creation of their new work.
Participants will experiment with choreography, improvisations and sight-specific areas. Collaborations with indigenous artists outside of similar accessibility will also be considered.
Applicants can apply to reside for one, two or three weeks and indicate their preferred dates.

- 10 to 29 January 2022
- 7 to 26 March 2022
Requirements
- Audio or visual material that applicants feel will support their application (three max).
- Short biographies for each applicant’s core creative team (no more than one paragraph each).
- A brief description of the project.
- Biographies of all team members.
- Personal statement.
- Portfolio.
Selection process
Selection will be based on:
- The potential impact of the programme on the applicant's practice and career.
- The project’s feasibility and the capacity of Banff Centre to help realise it.
- Whether the project fits with Banff Centre’s values and strategic directions as described in its strategic plan.
How to apply
The programme costs over C$4 200 (about $3 300). However, a scholarship covering 100% of the tuition fees is available to applicants.
Note: There is an application fee of C$65 for individuals or groups and C$35 for applicants who identify as indigenous. Individual group members must pay an additional registration fee of $35 on acceptance.
