Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra concerts to stream in November
The Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra (CPO) will make available its recently recorded chamber music concerts for streaming from 5 November.
The four concerts were supported by the City of Cape Town and recorded at Erin Hall in Rondebosch, South Africa in front of a small audience according to social distancing measures.
CPO’s 11 works showcased the musicians in a chamber music environment, which enabled them to demonstrate their capabilities in a small setting rather than a huge symphonic one.
“This was the only way we could ensure our supporters could hear good music which our musicians loved performing,” CPO CEO Louis Heyneman said. “It was, at the time, the only way in which we could perform in front of a live audience. We are recording two symphony concerts for streaming in November but until our usual venues open to audiences our hands are tied.”
The music they performed included some of their popular songs, which were specifically arranged for chamber groups. Audiences can expect works from Beethoven, Mozart, Elgar and Brilliant Brahms.
Each concert features almost every member of CPO and its two guest concertmasters Farida Bacharova and Suzanne Martens. CPO is also expanding the line-up to include some of its popular soloists such as pianists Nina Schumann and Albie van Schalkwyk as well as two young pianists Mike Wang and Qden Blaauw.
Additionally, CPO’s new clarinetist, Féroll-Jon Davids, will also perform the Mozart Clarinet Concerto.
The shows will start from 7pm. Tickets to the four concerts are available here.
