Cultural Vibrancy Index for Africa to launch on 27 April
The Cultural Vibrancy Index for Africa (CVIA) will launch at the iHub in Nairobi, Kenya, on April 27.
CVIA is a comprehensive database that maps the cultural landscape in Africa, highlighting the cultural infrastructure, institutions, events, organisations, policies and initiatives that support the creative economy.
The project was developed by the Creative Economy Practice at CcHUB in Nigeria in partnership with Africa No Filter and the British Council. The Creative Economy Practice aims to stimulate innovation and technology adoption in the African creative economy to catalyse further growth in the sector and capture maximum value for African creatives and other sector players.
CVIA will offer valuable data and insights for investors, funders and stakeholders in the creative and cultural industries, providing a comparative view of the landscape across 12 African cities: Accra, Cairo, Dakar, Dar es Salaam, Harare, Johannesburg, Kinshasa, Lagos, Luanda, Marrakesh, Nairobi and Tunis.
It is expected to inspire growth in the sector and stimulate dialogue and action to enhance support for artists and creative entrepreneurs. Future updates to the index will include additional cities and tracking changes in cities that are already mapped.
