Davido, Chris Brown collabo Blow My Mind breaks YouTube
Afropop singer Davido and American artist Chris Brown have set a record with the video for their new track 'Blow My Mind'.
With more than 3.1 million views at the time of writing, it is the first video by a Nigerian artist to amass 2 million YouYube plays in the first 24 hours of its release, according to Nigerian media. And the video is clocking thousands of views every hour as fans show their devotion for the two music idols.
The collaboration between the two musicians bears testament of Nigerian artists' potential in the US music market. This month, Nigeria's Burna Boy got his big US break after performing on Jimmy Kimmel Live! as part of the Apple Music Up Next campaign. The late night TV show enjoys an audience of about 2 million viewers.
Chris Brown, who has sold more than 100 million records worldwide, will also be looking to further impassion the millions of Nigeran music fans through his collaboration with Davido. The 'Blow My Mind' video comes just days after he dropped 'No Guidance' featuring Drake.
'Blow My Mind' was filmed by Edgar Esteves, who has directed videos for other big-name artists such as J Cole, Rick Ross, 2 Chainz, Jake Miller, DJ Khaled, French Montana, Meek Mill, Ace Hood, Future, and Nate Green.
Davido is the first Nigerian artist to reach 5 and 9 million followers on Twitter and Instagram respectively, making him the most bankable Nigerian on social media. This week he also became the only Nigerian artist to surpass 500 million views across his video releases, including 'Assurance', 'Fall', 'Fia' and 'If'.
Meanwhile, the most viewed YouTube music video within the first 24 hours of its release is 'Boy with Luv' by Korean boy band BTS featuring Halsey. That video got 74.6 million views and is currently sitting on close to half-a-billion plays.
