East African artists to make Coke Studio debut
Kenya’s girl band The Band BeCa and Tanzanian rapper Bill Nass will perform at the ongoing season of Coke Studio Africa.
The show premiered on 10 September in more than 30 countries across Africa and will broadcast until December 2017. It provides a platform for fast rising musicians to collaborate with industry greats on the Big Break segment.
On the segment this season, the Band BeCa will collaborate with South African hip hop artist AKA and Nigeria's Olamide. Both collabos are to be produced by South African music producer Sketchy Bongo.
"It’s really overwhelming for upcoming artists like us to be on a big platform like Coke Studio," said Carol, a member of the band. "We feel like it is an appreciation of our hard work and also team spirit. I had never thought of ever doing a collabo with AKA so this is big for us.”
Fellow band member Becky said, “Our dream was to become the Coke Studio Africa backup vocalists but now we are here and so thankful. We have learnt so much from them.”
The Big Break segment will also host Tanzanian rapper Bill Nass who will perform alongside Ugandan Sheebah Karungi and Ethiopia’s Asgegnew Ashko with production provided by Gemini Major.
“I am glad that my talent and hard work are now being recognized. Working with Asgegnew and Sheebah is a really good mash up since we are from different cultures and places in Africa and that’s why I love the show,” said Nass.
Other artists to be featured on the segment are Mashayabhuqe (South Africa), Dremo (Nigeria), Denise (Madagascar), Shellsy Baronet (Mozambique), Ozane (Togo), Worlasi (Ghana) and Ykee Benda (Uganda).
