Eddy Kenzo's Tweyagale video hits 40 mil YouTube views
‘Tweyagale’, a music video by Ugandan musician Eddy Kenzo featuring the Masaka Kids Africana, has reached 40 million views on YouTube.
The dance video premiered on YouTube on 23 February following the song’s release earlier in the same month.
"We got over 12 million views a month after we published the dance video," Kenzo told Music In Africa in an earlier interview. "Using kids to create dance video is a concept that I have explored in the past.
“I started with the Triplets Ghetto Kids who are now known all over the world and have achieved success beyond what I could have ever imagined. I encourage artists to create new concepts to distinguish their art and as well as support the local talents."
Masaka Kids Africana’s vibrant dance moves have attracted attention from international audiences, and earned the group millions views on YouTube. The outfit debuted the music scene in 2018 following the release of 'I Love You Africa', which features comical dance moves. In April the dance sensation received special recognition from BET for its participation in the #TootsieSlide dance challenge, which was pioneered by Drake.
Some of Kennzo’s achievements include collaborating with artists from Ivory Coast, Tanzania and South Africa, as well as a string of awards and sold-out events across Africa. In May Kenzo became the first Ugandan artist to be awarded a Gold Play Button by YouTube for garnering one million subscribers on his channel. In June, Billboard included Kenzo among the top 15 most-streamed artists in sub-Saharan Africa. Kenzo also emerged top winner at the 2020 edition of the HiPipo Music Awards where he took home three nods.
