YouTube Music launches songwriter and producer hub
YouTube Music this week announced a new dedicated hub for songwriters, producers and their teams.
The development was revealed by YouTube’s manager of music publishing partnerships, Eric Knapp, who said that the site offers “the blueprint for songwriter, producer, mixer composer engineer to get started growing and maintaining their own digital discography on YouTube.”
The tool could benefit artists in the early stages of their music careers, and comes hot on the heels of Spotify’s recently launched In Focus, a new career advice portal that seeks to “help artists and their teams achieve their career goals”.
YouTube’s new resource is available on the YouTube for Artists platform. It offers users various tips and pointers on how to boost their presence on YouTube. The tool highlights the key processes and benefits of starting, organsing and monetising YouTube channels. Its sections include Credits, Publishers and Societies, Insider Tips, Content Strategies and YouTube Shorts.
Credits boasts a series of playlists featuring “the most-played hits and essential tracks from today’s biggest songwriters and producers,” the company said. Some of the playlist curators include Quincy Jones, Rodney Jerkins (aka Darkchild) and Hillary Lindsey.
Publishers and Societies, meanwhile, aims to educate users about the benefits of creating a channel. Users can browse customised resources like how to create a visual discography and how to promote their latest work on YouTube.
“Think of your channel as the most customisable tool in your arsenal of promotional materials,” the website says. “Your YouTube channel visually tells the story of your catalogue and roster … Your channel is an all-encompassing destination to showcase your roster, members, clients or affiliates to the world. You can also use your channel to highlight new signings and catalogue milestones, to showcase events and to promote other endeavours relevant to your organisation.”
